GENESIS AND OWNERSHIP OF THE VISION.
A Nigerian born disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and his wife had been seeking God for direction regarding where He would have them serve in His global harvest. Then their friend serving as missionary in Mozambique invited him to visit that nation while listening for God’s direction. He visited in February, 2011. After that month long visit, the couple was preparing to go and serve the Mozambican church in several ways including but not limited to making disciples of church leaders. In the course of this, it was impressed on the man that Mozambique needs prayers-not just the prayers of a few people, but the UNITED prayers of Christians across the whole earth.
This united prayer would go on for a whole year and beyond. Hence the vision was described as GLOBAL YEAR OF UNITED PRAYER FOR MOZAMBIQUE, to be done in 2012.
This disciple shared the vision with a number of elders, and so an International Board of Advisers was set up. This is a non executive responsibility. Members pray for the vision and give counsel to see that it is on course.
The International Board of Advisers consists of :
- Rev Dr Reuben Ezemadu
- Pastor Austen Chimdi Ukachi
- Rev Gideon Para-Mallam
- Isebel Spangenberg
Next, this disciple visited Mozambique again in July, 2011 to share the vision with church leaders, seek their ownership of it, and partnership in executing it. Mozambican church leaders embraced the vision and jointly declared 2012 GLOBAL YEAR OF UNITED PRAYER FOR MOZAMBIQUE. See text of declaration.
The leaders also appointed a national committee of 6 to mobilize the nation for the Year of Prayer. They also agreed that this disciple and his wife should relocate to Mozambique to join them in executing the Year of Prayer. This couple moved into Mozambique October 2011 and are working side by side national leaders to mobilize the nation and the global church for the Year of Prayer.
In addition, a Mozambican Board of Advisers was also set up. The members are:
- Pastor Jose Francisco Madeira
- Pastor Tomas Zefanias
- Tim Wood
- Andre Inguane.
